Of course, this is also very personal, so you would need to gently interrogate your Mom without her knowing. You could also buy a compilation of the most popular artists of your Mom's youth, and present this as a gift. An even better step would be to look for a DVD of these old performers producing their music live. (This has the added benefit of giving everyone a good laugh at the same time!)
